Hi from Hyaets!

Hi from Hyaets!

WOW! Here it is, Friday night and our days at Hyaets are almost over! Busy is an understatement, but we have finished the work planned for us here and are eagerly awaiting the community Share Day tomorrow. The weather has been warm but beautiful, the group eager but sweaty, the challenges daunting but completed.

Led by Fearless Leader Bert, most of the team – Patty Arrington, Veona Ackerman, Steve Finch, Sue Hurley, Leeann Perkins, Meriem Thacker and Lorene Wyatt – set out from HRBC on Wednesday afternoon. Wilton and Christy Ford were already in Charlotte, and Sigsby Gale and Gary Scottow would join us there. Our first adventure began soon after we were on the road to Charlotte – high winds buffeted the van and we began hearing a flapping noise from somewhere. It seems the rubber gasket holding the windshield in place was working loose. Fearless Leader Bert stopped at a gas station. Steve purchased some duct tape, and together he and Bert repaired the gasket. On our way!

Thursday morning we felt a bit overwhelmed as we tackled our tasks; there were an attic, two sheds, two basements and assorted other locations to be emptied, sorted, and cleaned. Of course, our goal was to find all the suitable materials possible for Share Day, and along the way, make executive decisions to retain useful items for Hyaets and discard useless items. It was those decisions that were the most difficult task!

Talk about sweat equity – by steaming mid-afternoon today we had provided a suitable resting place for Rizzo the Rat, who overdosed on peanut butter in Helms’ basement, cleared the sheds, produced mountains of trash, and having accomplished all, set out to publicize Share Day in the neighborhood. Dinner at Mert’s Heart and Soul tonight capped hours of blessings.

The Lord has touched all our hearts with the needs of the Enderly Park area and with the incredible dedication of Helms and Greg and Joanie and Jason as they minister to this community. God is truly at work here, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to be a very small part of his work.

Catch the stars of the cast – year-old charmer John Tyson and tiny heartwarmer Joy Kate. Also take time to look at the mosaic wall which adorns the side of the shed that will become the clubhouse. It is truly a work of art. You will find an angel, words of faith and encouragement, and you’ll realize how beauty can come about wherever there is love and compassion.

Love you,

Sue
